Stanley Chi and Jaco De Leon, producers of the Philippine show “Front Act With Mike and Stanley” on TV 5,  have recently recruited my services to come up with a clay animation segment on their comedy show.  Their show has been airing JP Cuison and Manix Abrera’s Marvel  parody,  “Captain Baranggay Captain”.

Ako si Weasel!

“I Am Weasel” stars a highly intelligent and charming I.M.Weasel, knowledgeable  in all known professions. A stupid and gramatically-incorrect I.R. Babboon serves as his antagonist, sometimes sidekick.

When translated into the vernacular Tagalog and shown in the free channels, this cartoon would be immediately offensive to the Philippine masses.

Philippine Television will never be ready to take the villain as the protagonist. Imagine an action movie gangster boss such as Eddie Gutierrez, Eddie Garcia, or Michael de Mesa being the main focus of the TV show.  We are not interested in the problems of the rich, nor can we relate to them.

Here, crime bosses do not hide from the law. They ARE the law.

Mainstream Philippine television (ABS CBN 2, GMA 7) is replete with adaptations of foreign TV series. As of today, GMA is airing Zorro, which is a Pinoy adaptation of Johnston McCulley’s famous movie and TV character. On the Other hand, ABS-CBN is airing May Bukas Pa, an adaptation of Marcelino Pan y Vino.  The past adapted tv series are too many to mention in one blog.
